For quite some time, both my mother and myself have wanted to donate blood. It seems so simple and time inefficient, but we just never got round to it. We finally made an appointment to donate blood via the Red Cross on the 6th January. We showed up, had to fill out multiple forms as we were first time donors, and waited outside the van for our numbers to be called.
Mum and I got to go in at the same time, but all our data had to be entered into the computer system first. After all the paperwork was finally completed, I was shown to a little bed where I would save 3 people's lives. Giving blood usually only takes between 6 - 10 minutes, and mine was a fast time of 6 minutes and 19 seconds! I drank an apple juice, and had to remain seated for about 10 minutes before I could go back inside and have something to eat.
For something that had such a little impact on me, it would have such a large impact for people who needed it. It's not hard to do, and it hurts no more than a simple blood test! I encourage everyone to give blood every 3 months and save 3 lives! The Red Cross do brilliant work, and I push for everyone who is eligible to do something about it and donate some blood!
